COVID-19: Quebec reports 127 new cases, 2 more deaths - Global News

Quebec is reporting 127 new COVID-19 infections and two more deaths Friday as hospitalizations keep dropping.

Health officials say both of the fatalities took place before June 11 and were retroactively added to the death toll.

Another 103,391 doses of the novel coronavirus vaccine were given since the last update. Since the beginning of the rollout, more than 7.1 million shots have been administered.

When it comes to shipments, the province says 170,240 of the 654,080 doses of Moderna expected this week have been delivered.

As of Friday, anyone who is 35 and older is able to bump up their appointment for their second shot. The province will continue to do the same with younger age groups in the coming days.

Health Minister Christian Dubé is encouraging adults aged 18 to 39 to get vaccinated. He said 155,000 Quebecers in that age bracket have either not yet made an appointment or gotten their first dose.

“Let’s not forget that everyone’s contribution makes a difference,” he wrote on Twitter.

Dubé added that vaccination coverage has a “real impact” on COVID-19 indicators as the province’s epidemiological situation improves.

The number of pandemic-related hospitalizations, meanwhile, remains on the downswing. There are 175 patients, a drop of three from the previous day.

Of those, there are two fewer people in intensive care units for a total of 39.

Quebec administered 22,677 tests Wednesday, the latest day for which screening information is available.

Over the course of the health crisis, the province has seen 373,658 cases and 11,180 deaths. The number of recoveries from the virus now stands at 360,973.
