Police arrested more than a dozen people in central Edmonton Friday morning at a home reportedly linked to a stabbing in the area.
Officers were called around 10:30 a.m. about a stabbing near 109 Avenue and 97 Street and found an injured man, city police said Friday afternoon. Paramedics treated him at the scene and he was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses saw police in swat gear in front of the house at 10907 97 St. around that time. Neighbours told Postmedia that officers used a device to smash out a front window and yelled at those inside to come out with their hands up.
“In the interest of public safety, officers contained a nearby residence that was reported to be linked to the stabbing,” Edmonton police spokeswoman Carolin Maran said in an email statement.
“Several individuals were called out of the residence and taken into custody without incident.”
At least a dozen people sat handcuffed on the sidewalk along 109 A Avenue and were later taken away by police. Two officers holding machine guns watched the home from a few metres away.

There was a heavy police presence with vehicles lining the neighbouring streets and behind the home. One of the home’s front windows was broken and a screen lay on the ground. A red door removed from its frame sat outside propped against a tree.
Police did not answer a question about what charges, if any, those removed from the home are facing.
One witness said a police officer chased a vehicle down the street.
Two police vehicles were stationed less than 500 metres north of the home in the parking lot of Park Memorial Funeral Home by Friday afternoon. A vehicle was towed away and followed by police. One officer on the scene said it was unrelated to the other incident.
Police communications did not answer a question about what happened outside the funeral home.
Multiple neighbours who spoke to Postmedia were familiar with the house at 10907 97 St. They said there is frequent activity there, and in the surrounding area, involving police and other emergency responders.
Last August, 32-year-old Deng Malith Deng was shot to death at a multi-unit home around 109 Avenue and 97 Street. Police have not released information about charges.
In October, an abandoned home around that intersection caught fire.
