Ontario is reporting another 740 COVID-19cases and two more deaths - Toronto Star

Ontario is reporting another 740 COVID-19 cases and two more deaths, according to its latest report released Sunday morning.

Ontario has administered 29,695 vaccine doses since its last daily update, with 20,709,011 vaccines given in total as of 8 p.m. the previous night.

According to the Star’s vaccine tracker, 10,797,097 people in Ontario have received at least one shot. That works out to approximately 82.8 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 72.6 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province says 9,911,914 people have completed their vaccinations, which means they’ve had both doses. That works out to approximately 76 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 66.7 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The province is now including new data that reflects hospitalizations and cases by vaccination status. Ontario is warning that the new process may cause discrepancies between other hospitalization numbers being collected using a different process, and that the data may not match daily COVID-19 case counts.

The province’s new data reports 425 COVID-19 cases were confirmed in unvaccinated people, 64 were partially vaccinated, and 189 cases in fully vaccinated people. Again, the province warns the data may not match daily COVID case counts because records with a missing or invalid health card number can’t be linked.

There are 214 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 158 patients in intensive care testing positive for COVID-19. There are 98 people on ventilators.

Locally, 141 cases are in Toronto, 106 in Hamilton, 63 in York Region, and 63 in Peel.

Meanwhile, one more residents in long-term care has died, for a total of 3,794 since the pandemic began, in the latest report released by the province,

Ontario is reporting one more long-term-care home in outbreak, for a total of six home or one per cent of LTC homes in the province.

This data is self-reported by the long-term care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the numbers posted by the local public health units due to lags in reporting time.

There are 146,328 confirmed cases in Ontario of the Alpha variant first detected in the United Kingdom, an increase of 97 from the previous day.

There are 1,500 cases in Ontario of the Beta variant first detected in South Africa, the same as the previous day.

There are 5,222 cases of the Gamma variant first found in Brazil, the same as the previous day.

There are 9,130 cases of the Delta variant first detected in India, an increase of 136 from the previous day.
