Because according to a recent “study” by a scrap vehicle price comparison company in the U.K. – your go-to source for automotive psychology, right? – people who drive Bimmers or EVs are more likely to display psychopathic tendencies than drivers of other brands of vehicles.
Scrap Car Comparison had 2,000 car owners complete a ‘Psychopath Test’ in the form of a 12-question survey to determine where each fell on the psychopathy scale, from zero to 36. Psychopaths typically display antisocial behaviour, have strong egotistical characteristics, and lack empathy.
While the group’s average of 6.6 was near the typical psychopathy score of 3.0 to 6.0 on the-almost-40-point scale – we’re all a little psycho, see – there were some outliers. BMW drivers nearly doubled the group average with a score of 12.1, followed by Audi drivers at 11.7. The next brand listed was Fiat, with a score of 7.0.

The most morally depraved subset according to the study, however, were EV owners, who scored a combined 16-out-of-36. Those with personalized licence plates also scored high, at 13-of-36.
Now, how representative of the actual population can a 12-question survey administered by a scrap-car company to such a small sample size be? Not highly. That’s clear. But it does still seem to confirm a few stereotypes, like that BMW and Audi drivers often act like they own the road, or that EV owners think they’re better than the rest of us.
And just to be safe, if you do happen to have somebody in your personal network who drives a BMW i8 with a personalized licence plate, you should probably run.
