More NB Snowmobilers This Season - 91.9 The Bend

There’s at least one group of winter enthusiasts that isn’t complaining about the amount of snow we’ve had this season, snowmobilers.

President of Snowmobile NB Dave Garland says they have around 19, 000 registered with permits this season, that includes antiques, classics and current models, ” I would says the numbers should be up even more but with the supply chain issue, there’s a lot of people who haven’t received their snowmobiles that they ordered last year. The manufacturers are doing the best they can and get them out as quick as they can, but the market is bigger than the inventory I guess you could say.”

He says overall though, permit numbers are up year over year for the season.

Trails are snow covered across the province this year, with the number of storms since 2022 began.

Garland says it’s common for the Clubs to have routine breakdowns on their machines with this much snow, “These machines are quite heavy and being out in the snow, they are turning tracks and breaking joints. Parts supply is a problem, but we have routine things that break, so the inventory is okay, so that Clubs are in pretty good shape.”

He adds, “It has been a fantastic winter. A little bit much on the quantity of snow, but that’s what it takes. The groomers are out, the snowmobilers are happy.  We have 49 clubs that are out there with 79 groomers. We are expecting to go right through the April 15th date, or even longer in some areas.”
