One more person died after testing positive for COVID-19, bringing the province’s pandemic death toll to 578. The age and region of the person was not provided by the province on its online COVID-19 dashboard.

The new cases are located in the far north west (six), far north central (two), far north east (10), north west (three), north central (four), north east (one), Saskatoon (seven), Regina (nine) and south east (one) zones. Three cases are waiting for residence information.

Two cases in Saskatchewan residents who were tested out-of-province have been added to the case counts.

The far north west continues to lead the province in active cases with 92, despite having one of the smallest populations, as community leaders and health officials battle an outbreak on Buffalo River Dene Nation. The outbreak had been linked to 63 cases as of Friday.

Saskatoon has the second most active cases with 54, followed by the north west at 39 and Regina at 38.

The seven-day average of daily new cases rose to 36, or three per 100,000 population.

On Friday, the province once again reminded residents that “optimal protection” against COVID-19 takes two weeks from a second shot to set in and urged people to get their first and second shots as quickly as possible.

“Delaying your vaccination plans only allow more time for potential community transmission,” the province said in its Friday news release.

There are currently 63 people in hospital, with 11 in the ICU. A total of 1,457 tests were processed in the province on Friday, for a daily test positivity rate of 3.2 per cent.
