Ontario is reporting another 179 COVID-19 cases and eight more deaths, according to its latest report released Saturday morning.

Ontario has administered 207,507 vaccine doses since its last daily update, with 16,827,434 vaccines given in total as of 8 p.m. the previous night.

According to the Star’s vaccine tracker, 10,124,810 people in Ontario have received at least one shot. That works out to about 77.1 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of about 68.7 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The tracker says 6,702,624 people have completed their vaccinations, which means they’ve had both doses. That works out to approximately 51.4 per cent of the eligible population 12 years and older, and the equivalent of 45.5 per cent of the total population, including those not yet eligible for the vaccine.

The seven-day average is at 199 cases daily, or 9.6 weekly per 100,000. Ontario’s seven-day average for deaths is at 5.7 daily.

The province says 23,695 tests were completed the previous day, and a 0.6 per cent positivity rate.

The province also says there are 197 patients in intensive care due to COVID. There are 134 people on ventilators.

Meanwhile, one more resident in long-term care has died for a total of 3,786 since the pandemic began, in the latest report released by the province,

Ontario is reporting a total of four long-term-care homes in outbreak, or 0.6 per cent of LTC homes in the province.

This data is self-reported by the long-term-care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the numbers posted by the local public health units due to lags in reporting time.
